What to expect at a strength and conditioning class
Welcome to Cultivus Fitness! Our small group coach led functional fitness classes are designed to help you improve your overall health and fitness in a supportive, community-oriented environment. The best part of functional fitness is the focus on variety, so no two days are ever the same. However, here's what you can generally expect when you attend a class with us:
The Warm-Up (10-15 minutes)
Each class begins with a dynamic warm-up led by your coach. This gets your blood pumping and body moving to prepare you for the workout ahead. The warm-up may include light cardio, dynamic stretching, and low intensity variations of the movements you will see later in the workout.
The Strength/Skill Session (10-20 minutes)
Next, you'll move on to the strength or skill portion of the workout. This focuses on improving your muscular fitness and developing proficiency in functional fitness skills like Olympic lifts, gymnastics movements, barbell techniques, etc. Your coach will demonstrate proper form and technique and provide cues and coaching to help you perform the movements correctly. Everything we do is scalable and adaptable to meet you where you are with your current skill or strength level.
The Metabolic Conditioning (Metcon) (10-30 minutes)
The metcon is the heart-pumping highlight of each class. You'll put your skills and strength to work in a fast-paced circuit designed to crank up your heart rate and calorie burn. Metcon lengths and intensity vary daily but often include exercises like rowing, jump rope, kettlebell swings, burpees, box jumps, and more. Our metcons break up the monotony of traditional cardio and are a great way to have fun with fitness!
Our coaches and fellow gym members are here to support and motivate you every step of the way. Your coach will provide feedback on your technique and help you modify movements as needed to make sure you are getting the best workout for you. They'll also offer encouragement to push your limits and discover your strengths. Our clients encourage each other and celebrate each other's achievements, big and small. Our goal is to create a positive, welcoming environment where everyone feels empowered to safely improve their fitness, no matter their skill level.
